Transition at The County High School Leftwich
At The County High School Leftwich, we understand the importance of a smooth and positive transition from primary to secondary school. We have therefore designed a comprehensive programme of activities to ensure every student, and parent/carer, feels confident, supported, and excited about starting Year 7.
Open Evening
Our Open Evening provides an opportunity for Year 6 students and their families to visit CHSL, explore the school, and meet staff and students. This is often families’ first introduction to our school community.
Year 6–7 Welcome Evening
Following National Offer Day (1 March), we invite all parents/carers to attend a Welcome Evening. This event provides further information about life at CHSL and what the transition process will look like. Parents/carers will also be introduced to key staff, including the Year 7 Year Leader.
Year Leader Visits and Primary School Liaison
Following this, our Year 7 Year Leader begins gathering information from Year 6 teachers to help us get to know our new Year 7 students. The Year Leader visits Year 6 pupils (usually in person, though occasionally virtually) to talk to them about “How we do things at CHSL” and to answer any questions they may have. This is supported by follow-up discussions with Year 6 teachers to ensure a smooth handover.
Year 7 Information Evening
At the start of July, parents/carers are informed of form groups. Students and parents/carers are then invited to a Year 7 Information Evening, where students meet their new form group Parents/carers receive key information about transition days and the start of the new school year including more detail about our curriculum and timetable as well as information about expectations and school uniform.
