Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The County High School, Leftwich is very proud to present the opportunity of participating in the Duke of Edinburgh bronze award to its Year 10 students.

The DofE has been well known as a great vehicle for students to gain extra-curricular skills since its inception in 1956.

The staff team of Mr Tomlin, Mrs Wells, Mrs Jones, Mrs Wood, and Miss Hobson are dedicated to using their expertise to allow a lucky group of our students to experience the Bronze Award. Those young people who are then able to complete the award will gain a certificate which says a great deal to prospective employers and further education providers, but also gain valuable life experience in a variety of scenarios that they would not usually receive in school time.

You achieve an Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections:

  • Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community
  • Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities
  • Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests
  • Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad

With the increase in applications over the last few years, we have integrated parts of the training into core P.E lessons. This means we can give this fantastic opportunity to more pupils as they can learn about the core values and skills within their P.E lessons to help prepare for the expedition.

If you would like more information about the course, then do not hesitate to contact the school and ask to speak to Mr Tomlin or Mrs Wells who would be delighted to tell you more about this fantastic opportunity.
