KS4 - AQA - Performing Arts

We have been chosen as a pilot school to offer a vocational GCSE in Performing Arts within a musical context from September 2005.

The content for the award is:
25% practical performance, in response to an externally set brief
75% portfolio evidence


The course is divided into two units:

Portfolio Evidence

Candidates' achievements will be assessed through evidence kept in their portfolio from the tasks they have completed whilst planning and presenting performances throughout the course.

Elements which would be covered throughout the course include:

  • Planning for specific audiences
  • Working in teams
  • Budgeting
  • Marketing and publicity
  • Preparing programmes
  • Presenting ideas to managers
  • Ticket sales/front of house
  • Professional conduct
  • Effective evaluation
  • Reviewing performances – as performer AND audience member
  • Meeting deadlines
  • Personal skills development
  • Health and safety issues
  • Copyright
  • Using new technology e.g. CD writing, live recording, PA etc.
  • Presenting final piece

Showcase performance

Candidates present a performance as a showcase in response to briefs set by AQA. Examples of such briefs may include “songs from the shows” or “Scenes and songs from the 1960s” etc.

Candidates are responsible for planning and organising every aspect of the performance; including developing initial ideas, producing detailed plans, organising rehearsals, presenting performance to audience, evaluating work.

Assessment

Will be by internal and external moderation.
THERE IS NO EXAMINATION AS SUCH IN THIS SUBJECT.
