Year 9 - MEDIA STUDIES

Year 9 Media Studies is timetabled in rotation with ICT. Students take two half-termly Media modules with lessons taking place in the B24 Media Studies suite using 30 PCs and multimedia software and hardware.

Students work on an extended digital media project with a strong emphasis on developing practical production skills. The project is to create the opening title sequence for a TV Situation Comedy based in a school. Software employed for this work includes Photoshop, Windows Movie Maker, Dance EJay and Windows Media Player. Students work with still images, animations, multi track audio, and moving images captured using digital cameras.

The purpose of this course is to develop general competence in digital multimedia production techniques, and a critical understanding of moving image texts.

10 disc-based textual analysis tasks will be set during this course, to be completed outside lesson time.

From September 2010 onwards the above course will be replaced by the third year of the BCS Digital Cre8or course.
