Year 8 - ECM - EVERY CHILD MATTERS

In Year 8 a lesson a week is devoted to ECM. One lesson a fortnight is dedicated to pupil mentoring to ensure the pupils are on track with their learning. Tutors guide their pupils so that they are clear about their subject targets, their progress towards them and the next steps they need to take to gain success.

In the second lesson, the programmes of study in Every Child Matters are designed to encourage the pupils to achieve the five outcomes of the Every Child Matters Agenda.

These outcomes are:

  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve through learning
  • Make a positive contribution to society
  • Achieve economic well-being

Topics covered include :

  • Drugs, Alcohol and the Law
  • Topical Research
  • The Wider World
  • Enterprise
  • A Stable Society

As well as having a one hour lesson per fortnight with their tutor, pupils will also be given opportunity to begin a Personal Development File which will encourage them to consider their skills, qualities and achievements.
